You Can Help End The War this Friday
The Peace Vigil continues! Please come join us this and every Friday from 4:00 until 6:00 PM on Hwy 26 in front of the big barn across from Fred Meyer in Sandy, Oregon. Bring your signs and help us do our weekly reminder of a war that seems to have no rational or end. While we respect freedom of speech, please keep your signs respectful and on message. If you can't do two hours, please come when you can and stay as long as you are able. Come prepared for Oregon weather (sunscreen, hat, raincoat, etc.).

The United States Institute of Peace sponsors the National Peace Essay Contest which provides prizes to high school students for essays on peace. Building bridges with youth to strengthen the peace movement means not only reaching out to youth and sharing what we know, but listening to their perspectives. Click here for information about a peace writing contest for high school students. This essay contest gives youth a chance to voice their views on some of the greatest issues impacting peace. In addition, scholarship awards are given out to the best essays, ranging from $1,000 - $10,000 (meeting a very real need for youth today - funding for higher education that doesn't require joining the military!). This essay contest also gives our human dignity groups a chance to reach out and build relationships with youth and social justice minded people in the schools.
Let's spread the word about this opportunity and use it as a way to build bridges with peace-focused youth and their allies.
